The Little Acorn began in the year 2000
as a junior Millennium tournament in conjunction with the Guildford Borough
Council Millennium Games. This tournament has now become a regular feature
on the calendar and is focused on FUN as the archers are invited to shoot
in fancy dress rather than the regulated dress. The shoot is normally
held around the last Saturday of June. |

Greenwood Osterley Archers (based at Macfarlane
Lane, Middlesex) are holding a special tournament on the 5th of June 2005
for juniors and (if you can persuade them to shoot) their parents.
The distances to be shot will depend on your age starting with Short Junior
Windsor's for the under 11's up to Albion's for the under 18's.
The event is very similar to the Club's Agincourt shoot last year (for
those who attended).
The entry cost is £6 (£5 if we apply before 20th May)
The shoot starts @ 10.15am (but you need to be at the ground by 9.30)
and will finish about 5pm.
Prizes are awarded for individuals, teams and (if applicable joint kids
and parents)
Please let me (Steve) know by e-mail
if you would like to attend and I will make the necessary arrangements.
For those of you who have not yet entered a tournament - this is the chance
to have a go before our own Little Acorn event on 25th June 05 (which
you will all be shooting at!). |
Guildford Junior Archers,
..........Its time to get going again the outdoor
shooting season is about to start. We have a programme that includes two fun
shoots, a party, a major tournament and dozens of other events.
Listen up this is whats planned for the Summer.
- LITTLE ACORN TOURNAMENT @ the Club Ground
The next big date for the diary is Saturday 25th June. This is the Clubs
Junior Open Shoot The Little Acorn. You really must attend this shoot and
support the Club. Last year we had over 70 junior archers taking part from
all over the SE. I will need your help on the day to set things up and of
course I will expect everyone to take part in the competition. People normally
shoot in fancy dress. This year we are trying to get a picture in the Surrey
Ad.- so you can show your friends what you get up to.
- OTHER SHOOTS Turning now to the summer
season, you should all have been sent by e mail or post a summer shooting
diary. You are welcome to come to all or any of the shoots advertised.
The shooting programme is also shown on the Shooting
Diary page. I suggest you print out a copy of the programme and keep
it with your archery gear better still put the dates on your family diary.
If you dont have access to a printer or you cant open the file, a number
will be left in the Club hut. HOUSE SHOOTS @ the Club ground I particularly
need your help at the House shoots on 15th May, 12th June, 10th July, 7th
Aug, 25th Sept and (the big one) 2nd Oct. The shoots start at 2pm and finish
about 5pm. Everyone has been allocated to a Club House (Agincourt, Crecy
or Poitiers). Look for the list in the Club Hut. Just turning up wins your
House extra bonus points!
- JUNIOR POSTAL LEAGUE @ the Club ground
Also, we have entered a Junior team for the Summer Postal league known as
the Selby postal. These shoots are on 7th May, 4th June, 2nd July and 6th
Aug. The Postal shoot is 3 doz arrows at 50m and 3 doz arrows at 30m the
shoots start at 1.30 and finish about 5pm. We are competing with lots of
other Clubs. Our scores are sent in by post (hence postal) and a league
is published
- SUMMER FUN SHOOT @ the Club ground. Sat
16th July is another big date for the diary. We have another fun shoot a
Barbecue and if I get my way a big PARTY. If you get your requests to me
early enough Ill try and play music you like!
- AWAY SHOOTS For those serious Archers amongst
you I intend to arrange a couple of shoots against other Junior Clubs. Please
watch the web site (Junior page) and the Club notice board for details.
Also, if you see any Junior shoots advertised that you would like to attend
please get in touch with me and well see what we can do.
- AND FINALLY For the Very Serious Archers
amongst you, I have now got the entry forms for the National Junior Championships
to be held at the National Sports Centre in Shropshire (a few miles from
Alton Towers!) I already have Marek, John H and Matt Ts names on the list
to attend and will be asking them for further details in due course. Please
let me know if it is of interest to you. Well thats about it for now. Keep
watching the Guildford Archery Club Junior web page.
