Tournaments

The club has five 'domestic' tournaments each year and also acts as host to three Open Tournaments:

  • the FITA-25 Open Shoot, held at Spectrum Leisure Centre the 3rd Sunday of January
  • the Take-A-Break Shoot in June
  • and the Record Status Acorn Trophy Open Tournament in August

The latter two both being held at our ground at Manor Fruit Farm, Glaziers Lane, Normandy.

The main junior tournament hosted by the club is the Little Acorn. See the Juniors page for details of this event and a link to the entry form.

GAC members are active on the tournament circuit, with up to a dozen members regularly attending shoots held by neighbouring clubs (Farnham,Woking, Liphook, Mole Valley) and further afield (including Reading, Winchester, Greenwood Osterley, Andover, and Petersfield).

Club members also compete in summer and winter "postal league" tournaments, shooting against clubs from all parts of the UK.

To see what events are scheduled over the next few months, please check out our shooting diary.

Event Information

Sighters:
The times stated are when you start shooting. You will need to arrive at the venue 30-45 minutes early to allow yourself enough time to book in and set up your equipment.

Club Evenings:
Tuesdays, general shooting, and informal coaching for new members and anyone who may require assistance with their shooting. Do the 252 round. Note: If you require assistance see experienced members on hand - do not be afraid to ask!

Club Tournaments:
These are open to all members, senior and junior; most of the shoots are handicap-based so don't think you will not win anything! A sheet will be displayed in the hut for all Club shoots; if you plan to shoot, please assist by printing your name on the sheets. This is to help us in calculating how many targets will be required and for the preparation of the target list and score sheets.

252 Badge Award = 36 arrows at any designated distance.
This is an internal club award and can be shot at anytime but must be shot with another archer/person present and score sheet witnessed . Collect them all from 10 to 100 yards.

Selby Postal League = 36 arrows at 50 meters & 36 arrows at 30 meters on an 80cm target face.
We have entered three teams (3 archers per team); you won't know if you can make the team unless you take part. This competition is open to all levels of skill.

Coaching Days:
Any members interested in taking formal coaching training are welcome to contact the club for information.

Flag Shoot: (Juniors welcome)
This annual competition is a team shoot held over two legs between Farnham, Liphook, Alton & Four Marks and Guildford.

Handicaps:
If you want your score to count towards a handicap rating, you must shoot one of the recognised rounds, and it must be shot in the company of at least one other archer, with archers not scoring their own score sheet. At the end of the round, sign the score sheet, get one of the other archers to countersign it, then either give it direct to the club Records Officer or place it in the box marked RECORDS OFFICER. Once you have put in three scores the Records Officer will work out your handicap and add it the chart in the club hut. All you have to do is try and improve on it! GOOD LUCK. In addition to any scores you hand in from club practice sessions, scores from all competitions, both home and away are notified automatically to the Records Officer who updates the official handicap list once a month. A set of Handicap Tables is available in the club hut for your use.

Remember For Away and Club Tournaments the Dress Code: Rule 107
Each garment shall be of plain dark Green or White. There is no objection to wearing green and white together Waterproof clothing worn only during inclement weather is not subject to these regulations, but both white and green waterproofs are available and recommended. Although we do not have to wear the correct attire for club shoots, the club would prefer that the correct clothing should be worn.
